”The distance from the Hotel Gasthof Brandstätter to the motorway exit “Salzburg Mitte” is only minimal, which is convenient on one hand; the background noises are rather prominent on the other. Apart from that, everything is as it was: first class, sophisticated Austrian rural style, attentive service and excellent advice on the choice of wines. And the calm quality of the Brandstätter classics: such as the delicious light stew; probably the best Schlutzkrapfen filled dumplings in the world; the tender ox muzzle salad and of course – in summertime – the indispensable delight of the apricot dumplings. Suddenly one discovers curry and lemongrass on the menu? Here? How is that possible? Not only is it possible, it is also a pleasant nuance of the cuisine, as this type of foods always remains unobtrusive – the tasty curry soup with lemongrass and prawns is a perfect complement to the culinary delights of the house (...) unalterably dependable and delicious.“

“Unfortunately inns such as the Gasthof Brandstätter have become very rare: the tasteful interior decoration of the parlours and delightful patio are an attraction for businessmen – the Messezentrum Salzburg exhibition centre is nearby – and regular guests in equal measure. Head chef Tobias Brandstätter forgoes fashionable nick-nacks and focuses solely on the traditional Austrian art of cooking. Simply delightful is how Austrian classics and seasonal dishes are perfectly served on stylish Gmundner Keramik tableware, perfectly prepared, as it goes without saying. Service – if that is at all possible – has even improved with Mr. Josef, who trained for his career at the Restaurant Brandstätter. At the wine cellar a treasure trove of national and international splendid wines of all vintages are waiting.”
