The Café Bazar in SalzburgThe Café Bazar

The Café Bazar is more than just a coffee house; it is an institution of the city of Salzburg! In many ways the Café Bazar is unique: due to its location in the heart of the cultural and festival city of Salzburg, the ambience of a traditional Austrian cafe and its motley patrons. It is a speciality of hostess Evelyn Brandstätter to live up to the wishes and concerns of the guests in a caring and cordial way. Gently and with an abundance of creativity and competence she runs the “second living room“ of artists, actors, businessmen and Salzburg locals of every shade.

Culinary delights in the Café Bazar on the bank of the river Salzach

Not only is sitting and viewing the World Cultural Heritage Site that is the historic city centre of Salzburg from the patio of the cafe a unique experience: the delicious breakfast served all day; the popular lunchtime specials; and the huge variety of sweet temptations and coffee specialities combine to make a visit to the Café Bazar a unique experience.

An advantage for the guests of the Café Bazar: the husband of your hostess, Evelyn Brandstätter, brandishes the cooking spoon as head chef at the 4-star Hotel Gasthof Brandstätter in Salzburg. Tobias Brandstätter, award winning master chef, is also responsible for many of the treats that are served in the Café Bazar.

Coffee house with atmosphere: the Café Bazar is steeped in history

From its very first days the Café Bazar has been a meeting point for artists, poets and thinkers. When Marlene Dietrich took her seat on the patio of the Café Bazar in 1936, all of Salzburg gathered to catch a glimpse of the chic blonde. Max Reinhardt, legendary founder of the Salzburg Festival and owner of Castle Leoploldskron, felt equally at home at the Café Bazar as did his friend Hugo von Hoffmannsthal. Today the celebrities of the Salzburg Festival enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Café Bazar: such as Tobias Moretti; Iris Berben; Nina Hoss; Gabriel Barylli; and Peter Simonischek, the famous actor of “Everyman“.
